General Information
Positive Classroom Discipline
I believe that in order to have a nurturing classroom environment, children need positive reinforcement for positive behaviors and consistent consequences for inappropriate behaviors. We have five basic rules that must be followed.
1. Be kind to others
2. Do your best
3. Follow directions
4. One talker at a time
5. Follow the “Fish” Philosophy
Children can earn “Caught Ya’s” for following school rules and being “Fishy.” A drawing is held weekly for prizes. We will continue to have a once a month incentive for those doing their best in all areas. Along with positive reinforcement, children need structure and consequences for misbehavior. Consequences for inappropriate behavior are:
1. Verbal warning
2. Time-out or time away from materials
3. Removal from recess or other privilege
4. Parent contact
***A Fish Stoplight will be sent home each night and reflects your child's daily behavior. Please look it over, sign, and send it back to school each day.
Snack
Students will be allowed to have a snack in the morning. Please send in a healthy snack. I will not allow children to have cookies, chips, or candy at this time. Also, make sure your child is able to eat the snack in about five minutes. Mrs. Holcomb’s class is peanut free. No juice boxes for snack, please. Water bottles are allowed in the classroom.
Field Trips
Our first field trip is schedule for Friday, Sept. 28th. We will be going to Westview Orchards in Romeo. I will be sending home an informational letter, permission slip and bag lunch order form soon. If cost is ever a problem for you please let me know.
Room Mothers (or Fathers)
I will be looking for one or two parents who would like to volunteer to be a Room Mom/Dad. Room Parents would help with parties and with the class basket for the ice cream social.
Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, I would love to have you. I need help making copies, putting together class projects, hanging bulletin boards and working with children. Let me know the days and times you are available.
Birthday Treats
As a school, we have decided to eliminate the traditional birthday treat. Please do not send in an edible treat, as they will be sent back to the office for you to pick up after school. If you would like to do something special in honor of your child’s birthday, your child may bring a birthday “present” for the class. This could be a book to donate to our class library or a game to go on our indoor recess shelf. We will proudly put your child’s name on the item so all will know whose “present” it was.
